It may be known for large, scaly reptiles, but visitors to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park will soon be able to come see a pair of cute, furry creatures.
Two Hoffman’s two-toed sloths, named Teddy and Grizzly, will be in an exhibit that opens after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday.
Officials at the Alligator Farm will hold the ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Zoo’s newest exhibit. Immediately following the ribbon-cutting, Sarah Patterson, bird and mammal curator, will offer comments about this species and what the new additions will mean to the Alligator Farm. The new sloths — a male and a female — will then be released into their rainforest habitat. The event will conclude with a public celebration featuring sloth cupcakes and an educational kiosk in operation until noon.
Located on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine, The Alligator Farm features natural exhibits, wildlife shows, and educational demonstrations.
The event will take place at The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park, 999 Anastasia Blvd. For information, go to alligatorfarm.com.
