Individuals who suffer from recurring back pain may need to consider making lifestyle changes. Modifying activities and learning new ways of doing things can help reduce pain and discomfort that comes from many daily tasks. Back pain relief can be achieved by making small changes in your lifestyle. You can begin to manage your back pain by incorporating the following habits:
Avoid lifting heavy objects. If you have to lift, ask for assistance and make sure you use proper lifting techniques. Lift with the legs, not the back.
Improve your posture. Improving your posture is important and goes a long way in providing back pain relief. Stretch often and remember to sit up straight and evaluate your posture often.
Follow a regular exercise program. Core strengthening is key to avoiding back pain. Pilates, walking and swimming are all good exercises.
Manage your weight. Utilize diet and exercise to eliminate excess pounds. Maintaining a healthful weight puts less stress on muscles in the back and abdomen and helps to provide back pain relief.
During these difficult times, our office remains open! Currently, we are still able to see patients virtually via telehealth appointments. Telehealth allows us to connect directly with current and new patients to check in, address concerns, and schedule tests, treatments, or surgeries once the stay at home order has been lifted. We want patients to know we are still here to address their concerns, answer their questions, and provide solutions to ongoing conditions. If a patient’s issues are truly urgent we can make arrangements for imaging or surgery if needed. Below is a summary of our capabilities for telehealth services.
We are able to review your current symptoms and identify the need for emergent, urgent, testing or surgery.
We are able to instruct and supervise therapeutic exercise programs for home.
We can review non-operative pain relief exercises for home.
We are able to review and make changes to oral medications.
We are able to order tests or injections to be done once the stay at home order has been lifted.
We can help explain what is happening in your body with related pain.
If a more hands on or in person treatment is medically necessary, we will arrange to accomplish that goal.
