LAKELAND — Santa Fe Catholic shortstop Alex Contreras signed an offer to play baseball at Webber University on Tuesday.
Contreras, who also played third base, outfield and pitched during his prep career, hit .256 with two doubles and six RBIs this past season. He has been a three-year starter and was a member of the Hawks' 2015 Class 3A state runner-up team.
“He is not fancy but he had a lot of clutch hits for us over the three years,” said Santa Fe coach David Saliba. “He’s got a good arm and runs pretty good. He’s got a pretty good glove. He is 81 to 82 mph on the mound. He pitched a little bit for us.”
