Former Menendez High School standout Stacy Piagno was selected to USA Baseball's national team trials roster ahead of the Women's Baseball World Cup.

Piagno, who competed in baseball at Menendez and later played softball at Flagler College and the University of Tampa, was one of 40 players selected for the camp this month ahead of the women's baseball championships.

Last year, she pitched for the independent Sonoma Stompers baseball team, earning her first victory in the Pacific Association.

The Women's Baseball World Cup will be held from Aug. 22-31 in Viera, in Brevard County. Japan has won the last five championships.

Piagno helped the U.S. win the 2015 Pan American Games, throwing a no-hitter in the process, and also competed in the 2012 and 2014 Women's Baseball World Cups.
