Turning two: The Jumbo Shrimp surrendered a five-run seventh inning to Jackson on Wednesday during an 11-3 series-opening loss. Cody Poteet (2-7) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits over six innings. Reliever Zech Lemond gave up five runs on five hits in one inning of work. Jamie Westbrook had a two-run triple and Marcus Littlewood added a two-run home run for the Generals. The Jumbo Shrimp scored all three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Rodrigo Vigil singled in a run and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cade Gotta. The Jumbo Shrimp also plated a run on a passed ball.

Around the horn: Miami Marlins reliever Nick Wittgren was assigned to the Jumbo Shrimp on Thursday for a minor league rehab assignment. Wittgren has pitched in 18 games for the Marlins this season and owns a 2-1 record with a 3.06 ERA in 17 2/3 innings. … The Jumbo Shrimp also announced before Thursday's game that infielder Peter Mooney was transferred from Triple-A New Orleans' disabled list to the Jumbo Shrimp. Mooney was a Southern League Midseason All-Star with Jacksonville in 2016 when he hit .258 with four homers and 29 RBI in 119 games. In a corresponding move, infielder Mason Davis was released by the Marlins.
