The Florida State University beach volleyball pair of Adam Wienckowski and Jonathan Justice lost their opening matches of group play Monday at the World University Championships in Munich.

The pair lost 21-17, 21-16 to the 14th-seeded German team of Dan John and Eric Stadie, then went down 21-10, 21-13 to third seeds Florian Breer and Yves Haussener of Switzerland.

Wienckowski, a recent graduate of Providence, and Justice, from St. Augustine, will conclude the group stage in Pool D Tuesday morning against Mao Harada and Daisuke Shibata of Japan.

After that, the two will compete in additional matches Wednesday and Thursday to determine the overall rankings.

The competition in Germany includes 32 men's teams and 32 women's teams affiliated with universities from 29 countries.
