Bolles graduate Caitlin Collier was eliminated in the semifinal round of the women's 800 meters at the IAAF World U20 Championships Wednesday in Tampere, Finland.

Collier had posted the fastest qualifying time in the world entering the competition but placed fourth in the third semifinal with a time of 2:03.95.

The 11-time Florida high school individual champion led turning onto the finishing stretch, but faded in the last 50 meters to slip from first to fourth.

Australia's Carley Thomas and Slovakia's Gabriela Gajanova, who both ran personal-best times, took the two automatic qualifying spots, while Japan's Ayaka Kawata advanced as one of the two fastest runners not finishing in a top-two position.

Reigning NCAA champion Sammy Watson also ran 2:03.95 in her semifinal, leaving the United States team with an unexpected shutout for the final.

Collier still has one more chance at the world junior competition in the 1,500, which will begin Friday. Though the 800 is considered her top event, she finished second in June at the USA Track and Field junior outdoor nationals.
