Stars of the game: Cedrick Brown amassed 299 all-purpose yards and Spencer Lesage scored three touchdowns to spark host Clay (2-5, 1-2 in District 5-5A) to a homecoming victory over Ridgeview (3-5, 0-3).
Turning point: After Caleb Plyler scored on the first possession of the third quarter to pull the Panthers within 24-14, the Blue Devils overcame three penalties on a 79-yard drive capped by a 2-yard run by Lesage, who carried five times for 56 yards on the march. Tucker Reape’s PAT made it a three-score game.
On defense: The Blue Devils sacked Ridgeview QB Tyler Huff five times and limited Panthers running backs to 38 yards on 19 carries. . . LBs Abbott Taylor and Cody Devore each had two of Clay’s six tackles for loss. . . Ridgeview safety Jacob Gregory recovered a fourth quarter fumble at the Panthers’ four yard line.
Fast facts: Brown ran for 191 yards on 19 carries and led the Blue Devils in receiving with three catches for 33 yards. His game-opening 75-yard kickoff return and his 51-yard run on Clay’s second series each led to 1-yard touchdown runs by Lesage, who gained 125 yards on 14 rushes. . . Clay scored on its first three possessions and led 21-3 after the first quarter. . . Ridgeview’s Huff passed for 128 yards and led the Panthers in rushing with 68 yards on nine carries. . . Freshman Al’Querious Ray scored Clay’s other touchdown on a 16-yard run.
