Three teams put their fate in their own hands on Friday night as wins by Lakeland, Kathleen and Lake Wales put them in positions to win district titles by winning their final district game or games. One more team, Lake Gibson, won to keep its slim hopes alive for the district title but will need help.

That means that, once again, the Lakeland-Kathleen match-up will decide Class 7A, District 7.

Lakeland is coming off a 48-3 victory over Winter Haven, and Kathleen defeated Bartow 54-8 on Friday. While Lakeland has a spotless 8-0 record and Kathleen is just 4-3, both teams are 2-0 in the district.

Lakeland will play host to South Broward next week, and Kathleen will play at Lehigh. Then the teams will meet on Oct. 26 at Kathleen's Johnny Johnson Stadium to decide the district champion.

Lake Wales' 55-6 victory over Lake Region moved the Highlanders to 2-0 in the district. Lake Wales will play Sebring on Friday at home in what could decide the Class 6A, District 6 title. If the Highlanders win, they would still need to beat Auburndale the following week, although they would be heavily favored.

Lake Gibson (3-5) can still win the district title, but it needs a lot of help. First, the Braves need Sebring to beat Lake Wales. Sebring would go to 3-0 in the district and Lake Gibson and Lake Wales would be 2-1.

Then in the final district games, Lake Gibson would need to beat Sebring and Auburndale would need to beat Lake Wales, leaving Lake Gibson and Sebring at 3-1 in the district. The Braves would win the tiebreaker.

If instead, Lake Wales beats Auburndale after losing to Sebring and Lake Gibson wins out, it would create a three-way tie. Lake Wales, Lake Gibson and Sebring would then play a tiebreaker to decide the district champion.

Official stats for the Lakeland-Winter Haven game were complete on Saturday and quarterback Ski McWilliams game was even better than originally reported.

Demarkcus Bowman was initially credited with a touchdown that Williams scored. Williams ended up with 225 yards of total offense. He completed 5 of 10 passes for 70 yards two touchdowns and ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.
