Vanguard’s Lewis Benitez-Chaparro raced to a 13th place finish with a time of 16:21.55 on Saturday at the FHSAA Class 3A Cross Country State Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Malachi Sampson finished 53rd (16:59.14) for the Knights who placed 14th as a team.

Belleview’s Adolfo Saucedo Flores was 59th with a time of 17:03.56.

Javier Vento of Miami Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was the overall winner by finishing the race in 15:39.98. Belen Jesuit also won the team title.

 

Girls cross country

Vanguard’s Mykenzee Marshall came in 69th with a time of 20:42.62, and teammate Greysun Ledy was 78th in 20:48.79 on Saturday at the FHSAA Class 3A Cross Country State Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.

Valerie Lastra of Hialeah Gardens Mater Academy Charter won the race with a time of 17:17.58.

Gainesville’s Ani Veltcheva ran it in 17:46.58 to place second.

Vanguard placed 17th as a team with Tallahassee Chiles ending as the total team winner.

 

Boys swimming

West Port swimmer Wesley Hyde placed seventh in the 200-yard individual medley with at time of 1:54.53, and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle (4:34.03) on Saturday at the FHSAA Class 4A swimming championships at Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Stuart.
