SammyJay Acree, 17, and Billy Campbell, 15, of the Lake Wales High School Bassmaster Team, finished in 14th place during the 2019 Mossy Oak Bassmaster High School National Championship on Kentucky Lake in Paris, Tennessee this past weekend.

Jeffrey Worthy, Jr. and Dillon Smith of George Jenkins High placed 18th and Garrett Thomas of Mulberry High and his partner Briar Napier of Lake Placid High finished in 22nd place to crack the top 25. Hannah Adams and Walker Weeks, also of Lake Wales High, placed 92nd for a top 100 finish out of a total of 252 teams.

Grayson Morris, 18, and Tucker Smith, 17, of Briarwood Christian School of Birmingham, Alabama, won the tournament with a three-day total of 15 bass that weighed 50 pounds, 1 ounce. The duo repeated as national champions, the first time a high school team has done so.

Fishing Results

James and Rita Pearson had 29.24 lbs to win the West Coast Couples Tournament on Lake Toho August 10. Barry and Wendy Norton took second with 16.27 pounds. Richardand Stacy Carter were third with 15.80 pounds. Bob and Judy Barzelay were fourth with 15.73 pounds and Tim and Kim Crocker placed fifth with 14.80 pounds. James Pearson had big bass at 5.69 pounds.

Dan Corriveau and John Corriveau weighed in 23.32 pounds to win the Thursday Night Open Tournament August 8 on the North Winter Haven Chain. Colby Fussell and Andy James took second place with 17.39 pounds. Josh Glass and Sawyer Fullwood were third with 15.47 pounds. Gabe Rivera and Kenneth Meadows took big bass with a 7.66 pounder.

Corky Gore and Danny Hulett had 12.36 pounds to win The Fishing Misfits Tournament on Crooked Lake August 10. Larry Johnson and Harry Porter were second with 11.44 pounds. Tanner White and Jason Fletcher were third with 11.13 pounds. Tanner White also had big bass with 6.88 pounder.

Lamar Middleton had 15.32 pounds to win first place in the Winter Haven Lunker Lovers’ tournament on the Kissimmee Chain out of Grape Hammock Fish Camp August 11. Ricky Dudley was second with 15.19 pounds. David Glenn was third with 14.80 pounds. Jerry Rayburn placed fourth with 12.31 pounds. Ed Palmertook big bass at 5.45 pounds.

Bobby Wooten won the Kissimmee Bass Series One-Man tournament on the Kissimmee Chain August 11 with 20.09 pounds. Levi Brown was second with 19.95 pounds. Levi Brown also took big bass with 6.42 pounds.

Upcoming Tournaments

The next Lakeland Lunkers fishing tournament will be their United Way Open Tournament on September 7 on the South Winter Haven Chain. First place and big bass trophies will be awarded. Payout will be 50% to first place and 50 percent to the United Way. Anglers are not permitted to enter the North Chain.
