ARCADIA

Logan Rogers and Jaylen Turner rushed for two touchdowns each as Port Charlotte High broke open a close game in the first quarter and coasted to a 42-7 win over DeSoto County Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

The Pirates (3-0) scored on their opening possession of the game. A blocked punt gave Port Charlotte good field position and Rogers’ 12-yard run capped a three-play scoring drive.

Trailing 7-6 late in the first quarter, the Pirates put the football in senior Ja’nyrein Washington’s hands. Washington scored on a 48-yard run and added the two-point conversion giving Port Charlotte a 14-7 lead they wouldn’t lose.

Washington finished the first half with 84 yards on just five carries. Turner’s 45-yard run gave the Pirates a 20-7 lead at the half.

There was a lengthy lightning delay immediately after the second half kickoff. The third quarter was played in a heavy rain storm.

Port Charlotte hosts Palmetto in the district opener for both teams Friday night.
