Netflix just hit a huge milestone. No, it's not another original series or a new classic movie acquisition. The company just mailed out its 5 billionth DVD.

You're probably not the only one thinking, "Wait, Netflix still mails DVDs? What year is it?" But the company's original model of subscription-based mail-order movie rentals is still going strong, 21 years later.

DVD Netflix, the subsidiary owned by the streaming service, celebrated the milestone on Twitter and thanked subscribers.

"The most heartfelt thank you to our incredible members that have been with us for the past 21 years of DVD Netflix," the company wrote. "Five billion discs delivered is a huge milestone and we owe it all to our amazing members and team members."

People are opting for streaming TV instead of having sex, survey says

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 5 billionth DVD was the 2019 Elton John biopic "Rocketman."

Netflix still has nearly 3 million DVD-by-mail subscribers and apparently ships over a million DVDs per week according to a tweet from the company. Not bad for the streaming generation.
